21may.txt Ken Davis ABL mission P-3, Falcon and King Air. ABL/moisture mapping and flux mapping. Stronger southerly winds, still fairly cool and dry. Note that there is a monster inversion capping the CBL on this day. Thus even though surface heating is very different west to east, the CBL is roughly the same depth across the entire IHOP domain because the CBL growth stops when it hits this inversion. Thus instead of a deeper CBL in the west, where sensible heat flux is higher, we should be seeing a more rapid warming of the CBL over the course of the day. Note that on 22 May when convection began to break out in the west (Homestead site near Balko, TX, very mild convection) it appears that the inversion there had begun to diminish, while the inversion in the east was still very large (about >10K at the ARM-CART CF, Lamont, OK).
