13 June Brian Reen Initially it was hoped that an early morning June 13 BLE mission would be flown. In order to give the flight crews enough rest between flights this would preclude doing a CI mission today. Since the Falcon will not return until at least 4PM due to repairs and due to the weather forecast BLH was not considered. The weather does not look at all favorable for a June 13 BLE mission (cloudy and windy) so CI was decided upon. The weather at Norman was hot and varied from mostly clear to cloudy with storms moving through around 11PM. The CI experiment yesterday went generally well. The initial location chosen east of S-Pol five hours prior to convection was quite close to the origin of one of the largest storms that formed. The ground crew unfortunately ended up a little too far west. A structure was observed that the CI people apparently aren't familar with that they think may have been convective roll-like. Multiple thin line structures observed made it difficult to know exactly where to deploy. The storm whose initiation they studied ended up becoming quite severe. A LLJ mission had been a possibility for the evening but this was not carried out partially I believe this was due to the Falcon being the only possible aircraft and the Falcon was not able to make it back from Springfield anyway.
